Network Security Review and Assessment Services
A Network Security Review and Assessment is a professional services
consulting engagement with the specific goal to examine and review
the existing network security vulnerabilities and risks inherent
in a client’s environment. The review concentrates on establishing
a “snap-shot” of the current network architecture and
network security vulnerabilities, the current security posture, in-place
security controls, documented corporate policies, day-to-day procedures
in use, and the functional implementation of security capability.
Two essential elements of a successful audit are penetration testing
and vulnerability assessments. The overall review addresses three
basic environmental components – network security, business
risk, and IT operations.
Penetration Testing
Penetration Testing is an authorized engagement to attack the client’s
network environment with the express purpose to defeat the in-place
security mechanisms and controls thereby gaining access to the network,
connected servers/hosts, WEB sites, Voice Mail and networked systems.
Performing a penetration test allows a client to establish a baseline
of the current security posture in its environment.
Vulnerability Assessment
A vulnerability assessment program is the foundation for developing
a metrics-based security management process designed to continuously
monitor the health of a client’s network configuration and
management practices. Vulnerability assessments differ from Network
Security Reviews and Audits in that they are more focused on providing
quantitative measures. These metrics can then be employed as part
of the client’s management practices. IE can help clients establish
metrics-based management practices and can provide periodic independent
assessments.
